You left me with this photo,
but kept the negative

ongoing project

My mother brought me to the Austrian and Bavarian alps every holiday, as long as I can remember. It was her escape from everyday life in the Netherlands. She thought me the beauty of nature. A couple of weeks before she got sick she told me that when I turned twenty-five she would move there and start a gästehaus in the alpsShe died when I turned eighteen years old, with her passing away, the alps became a kind of thought escape for me. In my thoughts she still lived there, far away, hidden in the Austrian mountains. Five years after her passing I decided to go back.

In ‘You left me with this photo, but kept the negative’ I am researching how present material in the Austrian alps presents her absence. The photographs are based on memories and old photographs of her in Austria that I lost a year after she died.
